As reported by the Colac Herald, the best of the best turned out to the biggest-ever Deans Marsh Dog Trials on the weekend.
Over 160 dogs and their 40 handlers competed across three categories from Friday to Sunday, wowing hundreds of spectators from as far afield as Western Australia.
Dave Lacey and Akoonah Lilly won the open competition by a single point, while Ronelle Welton and Deppeler's Jackson took out the improver section. The novice section was claimed by Wally Dalton and McConnel's Gyp. Organiser Mark Fagan said crowds braved windy and slightly wet conditions but were rewarded with a community market on Sunday, while the event helped showcase Deans Marsh. A contingent of competitors came from WA including the open category runner-up Ken Atherton.
Mark said local Robert Staley made an impressive score of 76 in his first go at the improver section.
The market operated by Veronica Phillips was also a huge success with over 21 stall holders there was something for everyone on offer including the youngest stall holder appropriately selling Dog Treats!
